چکیده

Mechanism Design is concerned with how to implement system wide solutions to problems that involve multiple self-interested agents, each with private information about their preferences. Mechanism Design Optimization Problem is a mechanism design problem where the output specification is given by a positive real valued objective function and a set of feasible outputs, and we require an output that minimizes (or maximizes) the objective function. Classical mechanism design theory assumes that the optimization problem is solved precisely. However, the optimization problem, for most of the interesting computational applications, is infeasible. This means that, we need to use approximate algorithms for solving the optimization problem. However, the properties proved with optimal algorithm, like incentive compatibility, may no longer be satisfied. This calls upon the need for designing alternative mechanisms, like approximate mechanism, randomized mechanism etc. Truthful Approximate Mechanisms are the mechanisms that use approximation algorithms for the underlying algorithmic problem while maintaining the incentive-compatibility property of the mechanism. This paper presents an overview of truthful approximate mechanism design, discuss various techniques available in the literature, and recent advances of the same. We have also briefly discussed certain other mechanisms.

Bayesian Mechanism Design with Efficiency, Privacy, and Approximate Truthfulness

Recently, there has been a number of papers relating mechanism design and privacy (e.g., see [MT07, Xia11, CCK11, NST12, NOS12, HK12]). All of these papers consider a worst-case setting where there is no probabilistic information about the players’ types. In this paper, we investigate mechanism design and privacy in the Bayesian setting, where the players’ types are drawn from some common distr...

Three Different Methods for Approximate Analysis of Bar Structures

In this paper, modified solutions were compared through utilizing three different approximate methods for bar structures. The modifications considered various changes in the initial design. To authors' best of knowledge, the studies have carried out on this matter so far are not broad enough and have considerred the simeltaneous variations of size, geometry and topology on the bar structures. I...

Evidence of the Potential Shift Mechanism in Crevice Corrosion (RESEARCH NOTES)

Previous research has indicated a qualitative resemblance between the current distribution along actively corroding crevice walls and currents measured in corresponding anodic polarization plots. Using detailed measurements of the potential gradient along the crevice, a semi-quantitative current distribution was calculated for the crevice wall using a double numerical differentiation method. Th...
